DOES PICTORIAL LANGUAGE BIND THE ARTIST FROM A NEW AND — EVOLVING WORK

As part of The Lab's ongoing experiments, painter, writer, and teacher Yair Garbuz guided a group of artists through painting exercises that explored various aspects of the medium and pictorial language. The experiment unfolded as a performance, with the participants receiving written instructions by Garbuz, Shai Azoulay, and Shira Gepstein.

The results of these experiments marked the emergence of something new—an alternative horizon or untapped potential—that was displayed during the exhibition period at The Lab.

The artistic experiment aimed to investigate the tension between structured creative processes and the randomness of spontaneity. It explored how verbal humor could influence visual expression and questioned whether pictorial language could limit an artist's evolving work. The goal was to merge the familiar with the unknown, the conscious with the unconscious, within a new pictorial space where anything was possible. Through disruption and intervention, the experiment sought to use the loss of control as a means of refreshing and renewing, creating new pictorial possibilities.
