AT WHAT POINT HUMANITY WENT WRONG — OR IS IT DISTORTION
When examining the experimental aspects of art, we encounter various facets that shed light on its often-amorphous nature. Thinking about experimentation in art is akin to asking, "What is art?" Do the works in The Lab transform actions into experiments? Does the use of multiple mediums influence the degree of experimentation, or does the focus on process and incomplete representations—at least conceptually—enhance it? Is simply doing something differently enough to be considered experimental, or is the artist's intention key?
Oleg Babich, an artist, illustrator, creative director, and comic book writer, addresses these experimental questions with a complex installation inspired by illustrations from his recent book, Tender Beast. The installation explores the meanings of human existence, delving into the notion of "human naivety" that has faded over time. At what point did humanity go astray, and is our current existential state a distortion?
