I AM NO LONGER THE CURATOR — BUT RATHER THE OBJECT AND THE ARTIST

In 2018, THE LAB opened its doors with Self Portrait, a captivating video and painting installation that embraced the gallery’s vision of challenging the definition of art. Through its experimental approach, the project questioned what it means to be avant-garde and innovative in a world that reinvents itself daily.
In this work, the artist Michel painted two figures on my body: one representing Leigh Bowery’s famous nurse, and the other, Michel’s own portrait. I meditated for nine hours during the process, deeply attuned to the colors—feeling and even smelling them. In this project, the curator, myself, became the artist, and the artist became the curator. This role reversal signaled THE LAB’s significant contribution to questioning the boundaries of the art world.
